    KEYNOTE: LAURIE LANS

This year’s annual Jewish Women’s Circle Gala Luncheon will feature your choice of two workshops: flower design or jewelry design with professional artists.

Keynote speaker Lieutenant Commander Laurie Lans has served multiple tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Persian Gulf, and throughout the world. She has erected a giant Chanukah menorah in Saddam Hussein’s Palace in Baghdad, celebrated Passover in Saddam Hussein’s Hunting Lodge, and arranged for a Kosher Megillah to be read high in the hills in Afghanistan. With her dynamic and humorous presentation, Laurie describes how she was able to keep kosher in very remote parts of the world, light Shabbat candles, maintain her Jewish identity and Jewish pride, all while proudly serving in the United States Navy. Laurie and her husband, Moshe, were also the only Rabbi and Rebbetzin ever to be deployed to war by the US Department of Defense. With so many years of service and years in Iraq and Afghanistan there is much to share.
